Calent Health

Our approach

The brain is biology. The person is awake.

Psychiatry is the only field where the organ we treat is awake. It feels, remembers and makes meaning. Good care has to hold both sides.

Brain chemistry, memory, sleep, hormones, relationships, culture, trauma and meaning are not separate worlds. They act on each other every day. Our job is to understand how they fit together for you, and to show you our reasoning.

A diagnosis is a starting point

A diagnosis names a pattern, like depression or ADHD. It matters. It points to treatments that have worked for other people, and it helps other clinicians understand your care.

But two people with the same diagnosis can need very different care. So we also build a formulation: a working explanation of how your symptoms came to be and what keeps them going. It covers your biology, your history, your body, your risks and what you want from treatment.

A formulation is not a final answer. We test it against what happens next and change it when the facts change.

Measurement should support care, not replace it

We use short, standard questionnaires to track how you are doing over time. They help us see whether a treatment is working, and they give you a record you can look at.

Numbers never make the decision on their own. A score can miss what matters most to you, so we always read it alongside what you tell us.

Your treatment history is evidence

If you have tried several medications, that history is not a failure. It is information. What helped, what caused side effects, what dose you took and for how long: all of it shapes what we try next.

Safety and meaning, together

Psychiatry treats suffering and also prescribes powerful treatments. Sometimes it has to make hard calls about safety. We take both jobs seriously. We will be honest about risks, tell you what we are worried about, and make decisions with you whenever we can.
